As we age the upper and lower eyelids can develop bags, folds
or wrinkles
that can make you look tired adding years to the whole face.
An eye lid removal procedure can effectively address this problem
where
loose skin, surplus fatty tissue and relaxed muscle in the eyelids
are removed
to tighten the skin. The eyelid removal procedure will make the
eyes look
fresher and more youthful by smoothing and firming up the lids,
reducing
the hooded appearance and removing under-eye pouches.
This is one of the safest and most commonly performed cosmetic
treatments
which freshen up one's appearance enabling to look younger and
more youthful
and is usually performed as a day case. It can also be combined
with other
surgical procedures such as a face or brow lift or non-surgical
treatments
such as laser skin resurfacing.
These options can be discussed with our surgeons during your
consultation.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
When the upper eyelid surgery is performed, a local anaesthetic
may be all
that is required. Upper eyelid surgery can be performed under
sedation - your
Surgeon will advise you further as to the procedure most suitable
for you.
The incision is made in the natural crease line that occurs
1 cm above the
eyelashes. The incisions might extend into the crow's feet or
laughter lines
at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through the incisions
your Surgeon
will separate the skin from the subcutaneous layers and remove
excess fat
and trim the sagging muscle and skin. The incisions will then
be closed
with very fine sutures or with surgical glue.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic.
The incision usually starts at the outer margin of the eyelashes.
The skin is then lifted upwards and outwards, gently tensioning
the area
and the overlapping skin is removed.
Again the incisions will then be closed with very fine sutures.
Will the scars be visible?
In both the upper and lower lids the incisions are made in natural
creases and
hidden areas resulting in them being unnoticeable after recovery
from surgery.
The eyelid removal procedure is often carried out as a day case
procedure
where the upper & lower lids can be operated on either together
or separately.
The procedure usually takes between 1 to 2 hours to complete.
Recovery from eyelid cosmetic surgery
There will be some pink scarring along the inner margin of the
lower lash
and socket line to the upper lid which will normally fade quickly
to leave faint
white lines. There will also be some bruising and swelling during
the recovery
period. Stitches are normally removed 3 to 7 days after surgery
and most
people return to work 7 days after their procedure.
Is it right for me?
Often droopy eyelids or puffiness under your eyes are hereditary,
this is a great
way to correct it. Though any surgery is a big decision and we'll
provide all
the details you need to make an informed choice. If you suffer
from glaucoma
or dry eyes, you must consult an eye specialist or ophthalmologist
first.
